Aleppo soap production:
discover all steps
1.
The production of Aleppo soap begins by pouring the precious olive and laurel oils into large stone cauldrons formerly fueled by olive wood.
2.
Once the right consistency and alkalinity have been reached, the still hot dough is poured onto wooden boards laid out on the floor.
The surface is leveled and made homogeneous with special spatulas.
2.
Raggiunta la giusta consistenza ed alcalinità l’impasto ancora caldo viene versato su tavole in legno stese a pavimento.
La superficie viene livellata e resa omogenea con apposite spatole.
3.
After about 24/48 hours the natural saponification process ends and the dough loses most of its moisture making it suitable for cutting.
The master soap makers with special blades shape the soap in their classic cube shape, imprinting their trademark handed down from generation to generation.
It is usual to use a different stamp for each type of soap whose percentage of laurel oil varies.
4.
The originally green Aleppo soap is left to season naturally in the air for a period of at least 12 months.
In this period of ripening it begins to change its appearance taking on its typical golden color.
This happens due to the chlorophyll of the olive oil which, due to the light, produces this chromatic change.

At this point the production of Aleppo soap is finished and the soap is ready for packaging and sale.
