Aleppo soap history and properties
Aleppo soap is a typical product of Aleppo city in Syria. It is obtained from natural saponification by means of caustic soda in olive oil and a variable percentage of laurel oil.
It is the most ancient among solid soaps. Its first evidence was found in Babylon about 2500 b.c..
French people learned soapmaking techniques from Aleppo soap at the time of Crusades when the youngest son known as ‘Marseille soap’ was born.
Aleppo soap is entirely vegetable and biodegradable with no addition of preservatives, dyes or perfumes.
Laurel oil is known for its excellent anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and disinfectant properties.
Due to its propertis, Aleppo soap is indicated as natural remedy to combat eczema, psoriasis, acne and dermatitis.
Emollient and gentle on the skin, it is also suitable for children, also excellent as a face mask if left on for a few minutes or as a substitute for shaving foam.
